A BIBLICAL FOUNDATION FOR ONENESS AND DIVERSITY
RELEASING OUR GIFTS SERIES 7: Realizing and Releasing our Spiritual Gifts
OUR DIVERSITY, ONENESS, AND INTERDEPENDENCE IN THE BODY OF CHRIST
AS WE BEGAN THIS SERIES ON REALIZING AND RELEASING OUR SPIRITUAL GIFTS, LET’S HAVE A CONVERSATION ON THE DIVERSITY, ONENESS, AND INTERDEPENDENCE OF OUR SPIRITUAL GIFTS, MINISTRIES, AND ACTIVITIES AND THEIR SYNONYMOUS RELATIONSHIP WITH THE DIVERSITY, ONENESS, AND INTERDEPENDENCE OF THE FATHER, SON, AND HOLY SPIRIT!
Summary: 4 There are diversities of gifts, but the same Spirit. 5 There are differences of ministries, but the same Lord. 6 And there are diversities of activities, but it is the same God who works all in all. 7 But the manifestation of the Spirit is given to each one for the profit of all. (1 Corinthians 12:4-6 NKJV) The beauty of the Diversity and Oneness of our gifts, ministries, and activities is synonymous with the beauty of the Diversity and Oneness of the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.
Today’s Context: If we are not careful, we can find ourselves doing “Good Works” in the church and the community, but are we sure we are doing “God’s Work?” To know God’s assigned work for each of us is to fully realize and release our spiritual gifts, ministries, and activities!
FOR THE COMMON GOOD
LET’S HAVE A CONVERSATION ON WHAT IS THE “COMMON GOOD” THE APOSTLE PAUL IS REFERRING TO AND HOW WE CAN APPLY THIS CONVERSATION IN OUR CHURCHES, MINISTRIES, AND COMMUNITIES.
Summary: Why has God given us spiritual gifts, ministries, and activities? According to I Corinthians 12:7, “each is given the manifestation of the Spirit for the common good” In this verse, we find the Apostle Paul telling us who we should be manifesting and what should be the result of this manifestation.
Today’s Context: We need to be careful that our works within the church, ministry, and community are intended to manifest the Holy Spirit within us…and not some other agenda.
CAN I GET A WITNESS? AFFIRMING OUR SPIRITUAL GIFTS
LET’S HAVE A CONVERSATION ON HOW OTHER WITNESSES CAN HELP US AFFIRM OR NOT AFFIRM THAT WE HAVE BEEN GIVEN A CERTAIN SPIRITUAL GIFT.
Summary: I have heard the preacher as the congregation while delivering his sermon, “Can I get a witness!” As Jesus was sharing His message in John 5, He was also asking the question…”Can I Get A Witness!” 31 “If I alone testify about Myself, My testimony is not true. 32 There is another who testifies of Me, and I know that the testimony which He gives about Me is true. (John 5:31-32 NASB) In this passage, Jesus testifies that His witness of Himself as being the Son of God is not true unless there are others to bear witness. Beginning in John 5:33, Jesus provides us with several of His witnesses beginning with His 1st Cousin, John the Baptist! Although I may believe I have one or more spiritual gifts, are there others who can bear witness or “Affirm” that I have it or them?
Today’s Context: At some point, each of us have wanted to do something that God has not gifted us to do or God has gifted to do something that we do not want to do. In both cases if we humble ourselves, God can do a work through other witnesses to affirm what is true!
REALIZING AND RELEASING OUR SPIRITUAL GIFTS
LET’S HAVE A CONVERSATION OF WHAT IS A SPIRITUAL GIFT, THE LIST AND BIBLICAL MEANINGS OF SPIRITUAL GIFTS, AND BEGINNING/AFFIRMING TO FULLY REALIZE WHICH GIFT(S) GOD HAS GIVEN EACH OF US THROUGH HIS HOLY SPIRIT.
Summary: Now there are diversities of gifts, but the same Spirit… (NKJV) Within the scriptures, we have identified 17 spiritual gifts. God creates and blesses each person with a unique personality, natural abilities, passions and skills. As Christians, He has also given each of us at least one gift from the Holy Spirit (spiritual gift).
Today’s Context: Although you may not know fully know it, we know that God is willing to fully reveal it…your spiritual gift(s).
REALIZING AND RELEASING OUR MINISTRY
LET’S HAVE A CONVERSATION ON WHAT IS THE BIBLICAL MEANING OF “MINISTRY,” THE INTERDEPENDENT RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN SPIRITUAL GIFT(S) AND MINISTRY(IES), AND HOW WE CAN REALIZE THE MINISTRY GOD HAS GIVEN US TO RELEASE IN THE BODY OF CHRIST.
Summary: 5 And there are differences of ministries, and the same Lord. (1 Corinthians 12: 5)If I have received revelation and affirmation of having a spiritual gift, what is the next step?As God gives us spiritual gift(s), He will also call each one of us into Ministry (Service) to the Body of Christ through the release of our spiritual gift(s).Each one of us, as unique members of the Body of Christ are called to release our spiritual gift(s) in Ministry (Service) to the Body of Christ.
Today’s Context: Even if we have finally realized the spiritual gift(s) God has given us, we seldom have a biblical understanding of the interdependence of our gifts and ministries in the Body of Christ.
REALIZING AND RELEASING OUR ACTIVITIES
LET’S HAVE A CONVERSATION ON THE BIBLICAL MEANING OF “ACTIVITIES,” THE INTERDEPENDENT RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN SPIRITUAL GIFT(S), MINISTRY(IES), AND ACTIVITIES, AND HOW I CAN REALIZE AND RELEASE THESE ACTIONS IN LOVE AND SERVICE TO THE BODY OF CHRIST AND OTHERS!
Summary: 6 And there are diversities of activities, but it is the same God who works [b]all in all. (1 Corinthians 12:6 NKJV) As God has given each of us at least one spiritual gift, and He has called each of us to release that gift or gifts in ministry. The next step is to determine the activities that will put our spiritual gift(s) and ministry into action.
Today’s Context: It is a wonder to behold when a member in the Body of Christ fully realizes and released in their gift(s), ministry, and activities. The full release of one’s uniqueness and unity in the Body of Christ is the full manifestation of Biblical Oneness and Diversity!
REALIZING AND RELEASING HIS LOVE
LET’S HAVE A 1 CORINTHIANS 13 “LOVE” CONVERSATION ON VITAL IMPORTANCE OF HIS LOVE BEING REALIZED AND RELEASED THROUGH OUR GIFTS, MINISTRIES, AND ACTIVITIES…AND WITHOUT HIS LOVE…WE HAVE NOTHING!
Summary: 13 And now abide faith, hope, love, these three; but the greatest of these is love. (1 Corinthians 13:13) There is no other thought, word, or action that is more synonymous with the character of God than love. Without His love living in us through His Holy Spirit of Love (2 Timothy 1:7), each of us risks misusing and abusing God’s purpose for empowering us with His gifts, ministries, and activities. Remember that our service unto Him and others, using all that He has given us, should come from our Love for Him and others.
Today’s Context: We can accomplish great things in this world without love…and without no eternal value. Just imagine what we could do as the Body of Christ if the beginning, middle, and end of all we did was grounded and founded in His Love!
